Rise of Castles - Strategy Hints and Tips

If you're on this page, you've no doubt discovered the hugely addicting, team-based mobile strategy game, Rise of Castles - formerly known as Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire. The rewards-driven, multiplayer, time-sensitive nature of this game makes for a massively immersive experience. In the game, you are tasked with building and managing your own city, recruiting troops, and battling against other players in real-time. Success within the game requires strategic planning and careful decision-making to give your castle and alliance an edge. Here are some tips to help you succeed in Rise of Castles:

Getting Started with RoC (formerly RoE)

Build and upgrade your city: Your city is the foundation of your empire, and it's essential to build and upgrade it as much as possible. Make sure to focus on upgrading your resource buildings, such as farms, lumber mills, and mines, to ensure that you have a steady stream of resources. When first jumping into the game, it may seem as though city-building and farming are going to be an ongoing focus. Spoiler alert: they won't. That said, it's still important to get this part of the process right to help establish your castle within the game.

Recruit and train your troops: Your troops are your most valuable asset, and it's crucial to recruit and train them effectively. Make sure to balance your army with a mix of different types of troops, such as infantry, archers, and cavalry. Train them regularly to ensure that they are ready for battle.

Join an alliance: Joining an alliance can be beneficial in several ways. You can get help from other players in your alliance, share resources, and participate in alliance battles. Make sure to choose an active and supportive alliance that will help you grow your empire. This is the most important part of the game, imho. Don't be dissuaded if you're a bit of an introvert. You don't necessarily need to be outgoing and sharing details of your life with your fellow team mates, but finding a supportive environment of people who will help you to grow and value your input is vital to increasing enjoyment of the game and ensuring that you succeed in Eden battles as you grow (see the advanced tips section below for more on this)

Participate in events: Rise of Castles regularly features special events that offer rewards and bonuses for participation. Make sure to participate in these events as much as possible to earn valuable resources, experience points, and other bonuses.

Plan your battles carefully: Battles in the game require careful planning and strategy. Make sure to scout your enemy's troops and defenses before attacking. Use different types of troops and tactics to counter your opponent's strengths and weaknesses.

Manage your resources carefully: Resources are a critical part of the game, and it's essential to manage them carefully. Don't waste your resources on unnecessary upgrades or purchases. Make sure to use your resources wisely to ensure that you have enough to keep your city and troops running.

Complete hourly challenges: Growing rapidly within Rise of Castles requires that you participate actively in 3-5 hourly challenges each day, while also completing daily missions that offer rewards for completion. Opening daily mission chests at the outset and growing this to nine chests each day once you've advanced your "Zone Commemoration" technology set be the fuel that drives your castle's ongoing growth.

Winning Daily COP Challenges:

a. Complete daily missions: Daily missions are an excellent way to earn valuable rewards and experience points. Make sure to complete them every day to maximize your rewards. This will also help your state or province as a whole, since every active castle in your state will receive increased rewards if your state's total score for the daily challenges is higher than whatever other state you are competing against at the time.

b. Play every day: Playing the game every day can earn you valuable bonuses and rewards, such as extra resources or experience points. Make sure to log in regularly to take advantage of these bonuses.

c. Participate in events: Events can offer valuable rewards and bonuses, such as extra resources or new heroes. Make sure to participate in events as much as possible to earn these rewards.

More Advanced Rise of Castles Tips

Rise of Castles can seem overwhelming at first, but breaking down its elements makes it easier to grasp. Once your castle and alliance are established and growing, your focus should shift to technological advancement, hero development and preparation for Reign of Chaos events, including the ever-important Eden rounds. Hints and tips relating to some of these intermediate aspects may be found below:

Intro to Hero Combinations:

a. Choose a balanced team: When selecting your hero lineup, it's essential to choose a balanced team that includes both strong attackers and defenders. Make sure to mix and match heroes from different classes, such as infantry, archers, and cavalry, to create a well-rounded team. Focus on building your cavalry first, though, as they're the fastest and most dynamic troop type for use in attacks at the outset, and they hold more resources when gathering or raiding enemy castles.

b. Focus on hero skills: Each hero has its own set of unique skills that can be used to your advantage. Make sure to choose heroes that complement each other and can work together to create devastating attacks or defend your base effectively. Later in the game, your success will come down to hero combinations and technology (and gear, to some degree), so it's important to build your collection of advanced (S and X-level) heroes as quickly as you can.

c. Upgrade your heroes: Heroes can be upgraded with experience points, and it's essential to upgrade them regularly. Make sure to focus on upgrading the heroes you use the most, and unlock new skills and abilities to improve their combat effectiveness.

d. Use hero combos: Hero combos can be extremely powerful in battle. Make sure to experiment with different hero combinations to find the ones that work best for you. For example, pairing an archer with a cavalry unit can create a deadly combination that can take down enemy troops and structures.

Most Effective Rise of Castles Hero Combinations:

In Rise of Castles, assembling the right hero combinations is crucial for dominating the battlefield. Whether you're leading a cavalry charge, fortifying with footmen, raining arrows as archers, or blending all three, understanding hero synergies can turn the tide of war in your favor.

More Tips Regarding Hero Selection Final Notes

  • Skill Synergy: Look for combos where buffs, debuffs, and control effects complement each other. For example, pairing heroes that boost cavalry speed with heroes who can freeze enemies can let your cavalry strike first and hit hard.
  • Role Balance: Having a mix of tank (front), damage (mid), and support (back) heroes is crucial. Pure offense can be fragile, while pure defense can lack punch.
  • Adaptability: Sometimes you’ll want to swap a hero depending on whether you face heavy AoE damage, burst damage, or morale-heavy teams.
  • Experimentation: Use apps like the Rise of Castles Hero Combo Calculator or watch popular PvP streams to refine your setup.

Eden Campaigns:

a. Plan your attacks: Eden battles require careful planning and strategy. Focus on taking down key structures, particularly structures that enable access to different land masses, such as bridges and gates,to increase your guild's territory as quickly as possible, while preventing others from doing the same. You can take towns later, once you have exclusive control of a large area.

b. Choose the right troops: Different troops have different strengths and weaknesses. Make sure to choose the right troops for the job, such as cavalry for quick attacks or infantry for strong defenses and for delivering high demolition damage to structures. It's also essential to have a mix of troops to counter different enemy units, and to train troops non-stop, as you'll burn through them rapidly during an active Eden campaign and they take a long time to heal; although rest assured that any unhealed troops are returned to your castle from the hospital automatically at the end of each Eden season.

c. Coordinate with your guild: Eden battles require coordination with your guild members. Make sure to communicate with them regularly to plan your attacks and defenses, and to mark targets with countdown timers so that everyone knows when different structures are to be taken, so that they can be online to contribute at the right time.

d. Use your heroes: Heroes can be extremely useful in Eden battles. Make sure to use their unique skills and abilities to your advantage. For example, using a hero with healing abilities can help keep your troops alive during a long battle, while those, such as Avalanche, who inflict more demolition value are essential in capturing towns, bridges and other structures quickly.
